Dean Bowen
…quirky, optimistic and humorous and underpinned by observations of everyday life with all its joys, struggles and contradictions. Dean Bowen (on his own work).
After training as a print maker at RMIT in Melbourne, Dean worked as a full-time printer before taking a leap of faith to pursue life as an artist on a fulltime basis. That was almost 30 years ago and he has been a professional artist ever since.
A winner of multiple national and international awards and the recipient of numerous prestigious commissions, Dean creates in multiple mediums – painting, print making and sculpture. While each medium informs the other, his work is always innocently naïve and whimsical. Known for his themes of birds, Dean’s work also celebrates the connections between the urban and country life, between the human and natural worlds, incorporates comets and night skies, animals, the human figure and childhood memories with humour and unwavering optimism.
His work uplifts the human spirit and its humour reminds you of what a joy it is to be alive. Your life can only be enriched by experiencing the imaginative work of Dean Bowen.
